Three of the Most Important Functions of Spatial Data Analysis

Location intelligence

With the internet playing a significant role in modern society today, there are already unimaginable amounts of data stored. As technology continues to expand and take on new societal roles, we will find that this amount of stored data rapidly increases. With so much stored data, how can we skim through and find what is important? Only a minor portion of the data collected has relevance. These are some of the most relevant pieces of data collected from spatial data analysis.

Security improvement data

Perhaps one of the most important features of spatial data analysis is the ability to improve safety. This improvement of safety can apply to both single users and large scale users, such as the defense of the country and the world. Department of Defense can store through this collected information to decide which threats to pay attention to. Additionally, large corporations can identify threats to security before they ever happen, allowing them to increase their defenses. Spatial data analysis can even be used to prepare for natural disasters.

There are always at least 24 active GPS satellites circling Earth, although today there are more than 30, including a couple of spares. These Earth cycling GPA satellites can gather important geospatial data that is then used to better protect the planet. This information is compiled into geospatial mapping, a process that allows researchers to make better sense of the large amounts of data collected.

Improvement of marketing tendencies

The world of marketing has already changed drastically with the introduction of the internet. Larger businesses now rely almost exclusively on digital marketing practices. With digital geospatial analysis, businesses can pull data from both previous and current customers. They can meet their customers where they already are, on the internet. They can sift through important spatial analysis data and use the data that is most relevant to their business. The use of geospatial technology will only continue to expand the marketing industry.

Location intelligence is one of the most important aspects of using spatial data analysis for marketing purposes. A February 2014 global business survey by Dresner Advisory Services found that more than half of all respondents across all industries say location intelligence is critically or very important to their business planning. The rapid growth of the internet will significantly change the marketing plans of the biggest corporate businesses.

The security of the internet

Oddly enough, the emergence of the internet will also present new problems. It will be with the same advancements of the internet that will eventually lead to solving their internet security problems. As we rely more and more on the internet to lead our lives, we are putting ourselves at an increased risk for identity theft. In fact, there have been many larger businesses that have suffered widespread data breaches. A data breach causes customers to lose trust in a business.

However, it is these same technological advancements that will also make the internet safer for everyone. With increased internet usage comes additional research analysts. These analysts will play an important role in increasing security measures. Between 2012 and 2022, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates steady growth in jobs that require familiarity with GIS and location intelligence, including geographers (29%), cartographers and photogrammetrists (20%), and surveying and mapping technicians (14%).

The internet is the most valuable technological component to our world. It is not only important for communication, but also for increasing security measures and digital commerce. It is expected that researchers with the ability to sift through technological data will be one of the most in demand fields in just a couple of years. Technology will continue to change the way our world works.
